Nutrient Management Planning
Are you interested in creating your own Nutrient Management Plan (NMP)? We have grant funding to assist with NMP development, the UVM class registration fees, and NMP updating services.
An NMP includes the following elements:
- Support for your participation in the UVM class and assistance inputting data into GoCrop Software
- 2 years of follow-up to help with adoption of your NMP
- Land Treatment Planning Farm assessments to identify vulnerable areas on your farm and fields
- Soil and manure sampling
Benefits of a having a NMP:

- Save money: reduce fertilizer costs and increase productivity
- Gain a better understanding of the local ecosystems
- Helps your farm comply with Vermont RAPs
- Create a more positive public image for your farm by demonstrating your efforts to improve water quality
UVM Extension NMP Class
We highly recommend the UVM Nutrient Mangement Planning course. To register for the 2026 Nutrient Management Planning class, please let us know by August 2025. These classes run for six consecutive weeks during the winter. The course includes class time with lectures and time for working on your NMP with assistance from instructors and staff. Reach out to us if you have any questions.
Funding is available to support your participation in the class. The course is taught by UVM Extension Agronomic & Soils Specialists, including Heather Darby, with support from our staff.
