Caspian Beach Clean Water Project & Community Forum
In May 2025, OCNRCD was awarded a state grant to design a Clean Water Project for the Caspian Lake Public Beach. The goal of this project is to identify improvements that can be made to the public beach to benefit the lake’s water quality and shoreland habitat.
Designs could include the addition of Best Management Practices like rain gardens, shoreland buffers, pedestrian paths, boat launch improvements, and stormwater retention ponds. OCNRCD has contracted FluidState Consulting to produce designs. FluidState’s Principal, Dana Allen, has extensive experience within the Caspian Watershed, which he largely gained through creating the Lake Watershed Action Plan in 2023. The project is being managed by Will Marlier, OCNRCD’s Lake Watershed Program Specialist, and a longtime Greensboro resident.
Any practices that are eventually designed and implemented will first be considered through a robust stakeholder engagement process, which began Fall 2025 with a Community Forum held at Greensboro’s Fellowship Hall.
