The 2024 Vermont General Assembly adopted Act 182, an act relating to banning the use of neonicotinoid pesticides. Certain uses of neonicotinoid insecticides became illegal in Vermont starting in July 2025. Certain products will no longer be registered in Vermont after that.

The insecticide active ingredients that are affected by this legislation are: nithiazine, acetamiprid, dinotefuran, thiacloprid, thiamethoxam, clothianidin, and imidacloprid. Visit the Vermont Agency of Agriculture, Food, and Markets' (VAAFM) website to view a list of the products that contain these active ingredients.

VAAFM recommends farms evaluate their pest management program to determine if this legislation will affect them. Questions about which pesticide products are affected can be sent to:

agr.pesticidestewardship@vermont.gov

You can read the complete language of Act 182 for more details on the ban of neonicotinoid pesticides.
